If you're just starting out and and learning to love Texas Hold'em it's important to have a grasp of the basics that you will need to know to hold your own. The best place to start out is with the options open to a player during the game:
Call: A bet exactly equal to the highest bet made by the preceding player.
Fold: This is when a player discards his hand, giving up his chance of winning the pot.
Check: It's like pass, where a player doesn't bet any amount and still stays in the play.
Raise: A bet equal to the highest bet made by any of the preceding players plus some extra amount. The additional amount is that by which he raises the bet. Every other player in the game must either then call, fold, or raise again.

There are many types of betting options and these may differ from site to site. Most games start with two players placing out a predetermined amount (posting the blinds).
• The dealer shuffles a deck of 52 cards and each player is dealt 2 cards face down.
• This is followed by a round of betting starting with the player at the left of the 2 who posted the blinds (the pre-flop).
• The amount any player bets will depend on the type of game and what option they take. At this point the players can call, raise or fold.
• Once this betting round ends, the dealer removes the top card of the deck (burn card)
• The dealer flips the next 3 cards face up on the table (the flop). The flop is made up of community cards that anyone can use in combination with their two pocket cards to form a poker hand.
• There's then a round of betting that starts with the player to the left of the dealer.
• Once the betting is over, the dealer will remove the top card and place 1 additional card onto the table (turn card). Any of the players can use this sixth card for their poker hand.
• The player to the left of the dealer starts another betting round, where the betting will potentially double.
• The dealer will then remove another burn card and put the final card face up on the table (river). Any player can use any of the five cards or their two cards to form a five card poker hand.
• The final round of betting starts with the player to the left of the dealer.
• Once this has been completed, the remaining players reveal their hands, starting with the player to the left of the last player to call (the showdown). Any combination of their cards and the 5 cards on the table can be used.
• The player who shows the best hand wins!
